2020 Pushing for Better Development Impact Assessment and Increased Transparency and Stakeholder Engagement

In July 2020, AC and several CSO around the world submitted recommendations on the DFC’s new system of measuring development impact, known as the Impact Quotient. As negative environmental and social impacts undermine positive development, our submission called on the DFC to ensure that these impacts are sufficiently accounted for during the project scoring process and to increase site visits to verify that projects are having the intended positive impacts.

In November 2020, we joined the International Accountability Project and several partners to submit comments on the DFC’s draft transparency and Board public engagement policies. Our comments called on the DFC to ensure that communities have the information they need to effectively engage with projects that might affect them. We further called on the DFC to ensure robust public consultation on all of its major policies to ensure that they reflect stakeholder feedback and best practices.
