Our lawyers assist communities to effectively use accountability offices to defend their rights and remedy harm caused by internationally-financed projects. We use our expertise with these offices to add value to wider, locally-led strategies for human rights and environmental justice. In doing so, we have supported communities to prevent abuses in Mexico, compelled redesign of a project in Papua New Guinea, and reached a historic agreement to mitigate the impacts of a large mine in Mongolia.

Our Communities lawyers work from three continents to support communities using a variety of levels of engagement. Our teams in South Asia, Africa and our San Francisco-based Global Communities team conduct trainings in cooperation with partner organizations, and work closely with our Policy team and regional allies to advance accountability. Currently, our Global Communities team works in Colombia, Haiti, Mongolia and Ukraine.

We invite you to explore the stories of our cases below. Please note that we do not publish any information for our cases where there is a security risks to our client communities.
