About

We amplify the voices of communities around the world to protect their rights and environment.

As experts in strategies to demand justice, we work alongside those whose rights, livelihoods, and environment are under threat by the world’s wealthiest, most powerful investors. We specialize in channels that amplify communities’ voices to be heard at the highest levels of power – shifting it back to those who know the impact of an investment on their land and lives best.

We envision a system that prioritizes people and planet over profits.

We are creating a world where communities take part in the decisions that impact them; effective and robust accountability systems deter abuses; and powerful institutions and corporations respect and protect people and the planet.

Our values

We are accountable to advancing our mission, upholding our values to the communities we serve, to our donors, to our Board, and to our broader community.

We only work at the request of communities that reach us through trusted networks, and our community partners lead decision-making.

We acknowledge and work to address the individual and collective ways that discrimination, racism, bias, and stereotypes impact our own organization, the communities we serve, and the systems we seek to change.

We train partner organizations as we collaborate so that they can bring their own accountability office cases, ensuring that our expertise is multiplied beyond our direct casework.

We accompany our community partners through the “last mile” of their campaigns for justice and commit to improving lives and environments where we work.

Our respect for human dignity and rights, what we call our ‘respect-based approach,’ governs our external and internal work, culture, and operations.

Lessons from our cases translate into policy advocacy that generates systemic and lasting change; our advocacy to create new accountability offices generates new and ongoing opportunities for communities seeking justice.

Our commitment to transparency includes information about our programmatic work, our international governance and operations, our financials, and our impact.

We have also adopted a Code of Ethics which describes our pledge to operate with mutual respect in the pursuit of equality, security, and dignity of the communities we serve.

Our ambitions guide our work to advance community-centered accountability between now and 2030.

01

We will increase access to justice for environmental and human rights defenders seeking to hold investors accountable to people and the planet by making our expertise available to more people and committing to long-term partnerships.

02

We will undertake and openly publish data and research to strengthen advocacy and to better understand the system we are trying to change.

03

We will strengthen existing investor safeguards and accountability infrastructure to be more effective at preventing and remediating environmental and social harm.

04

Where other viable avenues for justice do not yet exist, we will convince investors without accountability mechanisms to create new or join existing ones.

05

In all of this work, we will seek to strengthen accountability ecosystems. We cannot do this work alone.
