Law Fellows will support Accountability Counsel’s communities work in Africa, including: preparing a record of meetings, conducting legal research, preparing fact memos, filing complaints, developing training and resource materials, and any other work as assigned.

Only applications submitted in English will be reviewed. Applicants are expected to have a strong academic background or interest – supported by relevant work experience (volunteer work and internships will be acceptable) – in at least some of the areas in which we work, namely: international law; development and economics; public policy; environmental rights; and human rights.

Applicants are also expected to have excellent research and writing skills; in this regard, applicants are expected to include an academic reference and a brief writing sample in their application. Preferred applicants will be fluent in English with a good working knowledge of an African language and either French or Portuguese.

Accountability Counsel will only review applications from law students currently enrolled in an LLB, JD or BA (Law) course of study; graduate students in a related field of study; and recent graduates (within one year of graduation). Please note that law and graduate student applicants are expected to have satisfactorily completed at least their first year of study.

Positions are unpaid. On request, Accountability Counsel is willing to arrange academic credit with the successful applicants’ academic institution. Law Fellows will be embedded in Accountability Counsel’s Africa office located in Nairobi, Kenya. Law Fellows will work directly with the Africa Director.
